Exotic Caulerpa have been found in New Zealand waters.
It is fast growing, sometimes forming large underwater fields. This non-native seaweed can
smother the seabed affecting your boating, fishing & diving.
It can spread by catching on anchors and other gear.
"Bag it Bin it"
If you're boating and fishing in the waters from North Cape to East Cape of the North Island:
• Check your anchor, chain, fishing gear and any dive gear for any seaweed.
• Remove it, bag it and bin it onshore.
Legal Requirements
In some areas of Bay of Islands and the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park there are legal requirements
restricting anchoring and fishing.
Boaties if you are heading out to these areas check the rules before you go.
