Asian Paddle Crab

Scientific NameCharybdis japonica
Is widespread in the Hauraki Gulf. Has been detected in Whangarei Harbour and Opua/Waitangi in Northland.
Colour ranges from off-white and pale green, through olive-green to a deep chestnut brown with purplish markings.
Strong swimmers and can spread to fouling on a boats hull.
